Who Should Not Get Lip Blushing

Lip blushing, a semi-permanent tattooing procedure, is not suitable for everyone. Certain individuals should avoid this treatment due to various contraindications and potential risks. Here are some of the key groups who should not get lip blushing:

Pregnant or Nursing Women

Pregnant or nursing women are strongly discouraged from undergoing lip blushing due to the lack of conclusive evidence on its safety for the baby and the potential impact of hormonal fluctuations on the skin's ability to retain pigment.

Individuals with Certain Medical Conditions

  • Autoimmune diseases: Individuals with autoimmune diseases should not get lip blushing as it may not be suitable for them.
  • Thyroid/Graves disease: Those with thyroid or Graves disease should avoid lip blushing as their medication may affect pigment retention.
  • Diabetes: Individuals with diabetes (type 1 or 2) may not be suitable for lip blushing due to slow healing and potential infection risks.
  • Anemia: People with anemia should not get lip blushing as the pigment may not retain properly.
  • Psoriasis: Those with psoriasis in the treatment area should avoid lip blushing.
  • MRSA history: Individuals with a history of MRSA should not get lip blushing.
  • Keloid or hypertrophic scarring: Those prone to keloid or hypertrophic scarring should be cautious and consult a dermatologist before undergoing lip blushing.

Smokers

Smokers are not ideal candidates for lip blushing as the pigment may not retain properly, and colors may distort.

Cold Sore Prone Individuals

Those prone to cold sores should take antiviral medication 48 hours prior to the procedure to prevent outbreaks, which can result in pigment loss.

Individuals Undergoing Chemotherapy

People undergoing chemotherapy should not get lip blushing due to the potential risks associated with the treatment.

Individuals with Dark Lip Pigmentation

Those with dark lip pigmentation may require additional sessions of "Lip Neutralization" to lighten the lip coloration before undergoing lip blushing.

Individuals with Certain Skin Conditions

  • Eczema: Individuals with eczema around the mouth should discuss their skin history with their artist beforehand to determine if they are a good candidate.
  • Acne: Those with acne around the mouth should also discuss their skin history with their artist.

It is essential to consult with a professional and disclose any medical conditions or concerns before undergoing lip blushing to ensure a safe and successful treatment.
